ER star Mekhi Phifer might have all the answers as Dr. Gregory Pratt on the NBC medical drama, but in real life he’s the one popping the question. OK! learned that the actor, 32, proposed to his girlfriend Oni Souratha with a brilliant, 2.65-carat diamond solitaire ring on May 9 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
“It was a total surprise for her!” Jason Arasheben, owner of Jason of Beverly Hills who designed the ring, told OK! exclusively. “He called and said ‘you need to get this done ASAP!’ We did it in 48 hours!”
The actor created the $50,000 ring, which is set with micro pave eternity setting on the band, to personally suit his fiancée, who works as an assistant to director Bille Woodruff. Jason delivered the finished piece to Mekhi on May 8, just before the actor whisked away his bride-to-be on a romantic getaway where he proposed to her the next day.
“She said it’s amazing how well he knows her,” adds Jason of Oni’s reaction to the sparkler. As for the big day, the jeweler is already working on the matching wedding band, “It’s going to be a simple, one-row band to match.”
